It might make you cringe to think about how much garbage from an event bypasses recycle bins and gets thrown straight into the trash, only to cease function as just another piece of waste in a landfill.

Green tip: Don't use dryer sheets!
You smell like chemicals.
Recent studies suggest that dryer sheets hold chemicals that are potentially harmful to the environment, and to your body. When you use dryer sheets, you are coating your clothes in a perfume that contains carcinogens, a leading cause of cancer. When you wear your clothes, coated in these chemicals, they are absorbed into your skin, leading to some very scary potential side effects. But fear not- here are some simple alternatives to dryer sheets that will keep you just as fresh. - Use a bag of herbs in the dryer instead. Pick your favorite herbs and place them inside of a heat-resistant cloth- make sure you seal it tightly! - Use essential oils- just a few drops on one item of clothing-- make sure to check if they cause stains (most don't). - Pick flowers- like the herbs, place flowers into a bag and toss in with the laundry. - If you normally use dryer sheets to ward off static, try other alternatives, such as static guard or organic static removing tools. - Use an organic detergent, such as SoapNut. Sometimes, these smell even better than the department store brand, minus the chemicals. You won't even need a dryer sheet! |
