Save gas by maintaining your car
Let's face it: We all can't afford to go out and buy a hybrid car in order to help out the environment. If you're stuck with your regular, gasoline-burning car, don't fret. Here are some easy car maintenance tips that will help increase the life of your car and save gas. Your wallet will thank you, and the Earth will too.
1. Keep your tires properly inflated. Under-inflated tires cause the car to work harder, which burns more gas. 2. Check and change your oil routinely. You should change your oil every 3,000 miles or every 3 months. 3. Roll down your windows instead of turning on the A/C whenever possible. 4. Change your air filter regularly. Ideally, you should replace it every time you have your oil changed. This can increase your gas mileage up to 10 percent, since a clogged filter restricts air flow to the engine and decreases its efficiency. 5. Combine your errands to avoid unnecessary trips. 6. Remove excess weight from your trunk and other storage areas of your car. 7. Drive safely and stay within the speed limits. It may seem like a no-brainer, but in addition to keeping out of trouble, your gas mileage decreases considerably when you travel at over 60-miles -per-hour. |
