It might make you cringe to think about how much garbage from an event bypasses recycle bins and gets thrown straight into the trash, only to cease function as just another piece of waste in a landfill.

Take the bike instead
Why bike?
Here's a Tucson bike map that makes it easy to plan routes on quiet and safer streets.
Why bike? First of all, biking whips you into shape and gets you places faster than you think. Also, riding around campus or the downtown area can save you time because you don't have to look for a parking spot. On a bike, parking spots can include trees, light poles or preferably bike racks, and you just ride up to your destination. Then, think about all the carbon emissions you can keep from polluting our pretty desert skies by leaving the gas guzzler at home. Driving in city traffic uses up much more gas than going longer distances. You can use this nifty Web site to calculate your carbon emissions, find the lowest gas prices or look at efficient car models. A word on safety Please use a helmet (fitted to your head by a bike expert at one of the many bike stores around town) where ever you ride. There are lots of bike crashes around town and wearing a helmet can make the difference between life and death. At night, always use bike lights. Don't assume cars will see you, because they won't. Think for yourself and the car driver. Always assume they will do something unexpected and be prepared for that. Lastly Happy riding. It's fun.
