It might make you cringe to think about how much garbage from an event bypasses recycle bins and gets thrown straight into the trash, only to cease function as just another piece of waste in a landfill.

Turn an Old Lipstick into a New Playground
Back to M.A.C.

For those that wear makeup, recycling your old makeup containers is a great way to "go green"! One company has made it easy to recycle your empties by starting up a recycling method women can easily participate in.

After a 10-year campaign, M.A.C. cosmetics is still on the crusade to get used M.A.C. containers back. According to Tucson M.A.C. manager, Janelle Marquez, at La Encantada, 2905 E. Skyline Drive. For the past decade M.A.C. has been recycling old containers to build playgrounds in underprivileged areas.

"We will take everything back except for pencils, bags, and brushes," said Marquez. "We will send them into corporate where they melt them down and turn the old containers into playgrounds."

The recycling program is called "Back to M.A.C.”. In order to participate in the program, all you need is six old M.A.C. containers that you give back to your local store, and in return you will get any lipstick of your choice for free (retail cost $14).

The store you choose to return the containers to does make a difference though. If you bring your empties to a M.A.C. counter at a department store, you will be able to pick any lipstick you want. But, if you bring your containers into an actual M.A.C. store, you can pick any lipstick, eye shadow, or blush that you want!

"It has really given people an incentive to shop with us," said Marquez.
