It might make you cringe to think about how much garbage from an event bypasses recycle bins and gets thrown straight into the trash, only to cease function as just another piece of waste in a landfill.

Green Chic ignites inner Green Living Goddess
![]() Green Chic: Saving the Earth in Style is girlie green living at its finest. The book is split into 11 chapters with information on everything from eco-friendly lipstick to little ways to make a home 'greentastic'. It is full of very useful information and is packaged in a way that isn’t overwhelming. The book is a great go-to for the green-living gal, but it filled with infomation that can likely be found through searching Google. What gives Green Chic the edge over just a Google search is author Christie Matheson’s dry wit and writing. Readers get green living from a perspective of just an ordinary girl who tried to green up her life. She puts herself in every situation and the book is almost like a personal memoir on going green. This is what makes the book a success. Matheson isn't preaching to her readers, nor is she some type of martyr. She doesn't tell readers to stop wearing their favorite pumps or to go without certain creature comforts. Matheson says yes, you can be green but you can also look fabulous doing it. While reading Green Chic it just feels like having a conversation with a favorite eco-girlfriend over lunch. The stories and Matheson’s reasoning behind her choice to green up her lifestyle lends itself to the book’s appeal. Matheson tells personal stories about how she has gone green. A standout story is her fear of public restrooms and her obsession with All-Purpose cleaner. Some of the best parts of the book are Matheson’s little charts that proclaim things that have always been eco-chic, like skinny dipping or a Chanel jacket. Although fun, the book doesn’t let fashionistas get away without a little knowledge. Readers will be able to tell Matheson took some serious time educating herself on everything from CFLs to eating local. The book is the perfect balance of light-hearted entertainment and hardcore information. It’s a must for any girl who is trying to find little ways to go greener. The book makes green living more approachable and also seem more manageable as well. Give it to a girlfriend who has it all, it’s a guaranteed thought provoker.
